All Water Thirteen

Designed by Ashes Still Water Boats

Ashes says the All Water Thirteen broke its records: in the first twelve days after release the plans were downloaded nearly 450 times by builders in more than twenty countries. She is a 13 ft by 26 in cedar strip kayak with good initial stability and efficient tracking, meant as a steady platform for fishing, photography and quiet evenings in backwaters and sheltered bays.

The plans supply dimensions, full size templates and lines, but no building directions, and Ashes recommends Ted Moores' Kayak Craft to anyone new to strip kayaks. They also warn that her short length and fairly wide beam put some tight curves into the strips, a challenge for a first build though not a barrier for a patient one. Published figures give a maximum load of around 290 pounds, which keeps her a boat for smaller paddlers or light day use rather than loaded touring.
