13' Schwan
Designed by Boatkits
A 3.83 m rowing dinghy and tender from Boatkits, the kit arm of Denmark's Boatplans ApS. The bottom is a shallow stitch-and-glue vee for tracking and speed, and the three upper strakes each side are glued lapstrake, giving a stiff hull with few frames. It weighs about 36 kg, seats three and takes a 2 to 3 hp outboard. The first was built on the firm's stand at the 2015 Fredericia boat show.
Boatkits says newcomers can get a handsome boat from this kit with minimal effort. Boatkits gives 30 to 40 hours for hull and structure only and puts fairing, paint and outfitting at 1 to 1.5 times that again. A rough budget is 60 to 100 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
