Sneak Box
Designed by Glen-L Marine
A 12 ft 5 in plywood take on the Barnegat Bay sneak box from Glen-L Marine, the low-profile duck-hunting boat that also makes a light recreational sailer with its sprit rig and daggerboard. Five sheets of plywood plank it, it weighs about 115 lb, and it takes oars or an outboard up to 5 hp. Glen-L publish a beam of 4 ft 6 in and a hull depth of 14 in.
They put the usual load at 1 to 2 people. Sail area is 51 sq ft. The hull is a vee-bottom hard chine developed for sheet plywood. For power they specify oars or outboard motor to 5 hp. They draw a matching trailer for her. Straightforward: no building form or jig, full-size patterns and a vee-bottomed hard-chine hull. Allow 100 to 180 hours. Real hours and months from logged builds show below.
What building a Sneak Box actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
