15' Kajak
Designed by Boatkits
A 4.70 m light touring kayak sold as a CNC-cut stitch-and-glue plywood kit by Boatkits, the kit arm of Denmark's Boatplans ApS. It is 0.71 m wide and about 20 kg, with storage compartments fore and aft that hold gear for camping trips of up to five days. The page describes it as stable and comfortable for beginners and at its best in moderate wind and waves.
Designed from the outset to be easy to build, so a good first kayak. Boatkits gives 50 to 60 hours for hull and structure only and puts fairing, paint and outfitting at 1 to 1.5 times that again. A rough budget is 100 to 150 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a 15' Kajak actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
