microBootlegger Sport

Designed by Nick Schade

A 15 ft 6 in strip-planked kayak by Nick Schade, sold as plans and kits by Chesapeake Light Craft. It keeps the 1920s runabout styling of the microBootlegger but is narrower and sportier at 22 in beam. A nearly full-length waterline gives it speed, flared sides add stability, and a chine that runs from soft at the bow to hard behind the cockpit lets it edge and carve. It was drawn for a fit newcomer to grow into. Hull weight is 38 lb, payload 259 lb.

CLC rates it advanced and estimates 180 hours. The page notes that most strips run fairly straight, which makes it a fair candidate for harder-to-bend woods. Real hours from logged builds are below.
