Norwegian Pram 8

Designed by Paul Butler

A small round bottomed pram from Frank Davis's original plans, intended as a smart lightweight cartopper or a foredeck dinghy. It rows easily, and with its centerboard and simple sail rig of 28 sq ft it doubles as a family sailing boat. Sail rig instructions and centerboard and rudder details are included in the four sheets of blueprints.

The hull is double diagonal strip construction with no interior ribs or frames: Butler's shop built them from two layers of 1/8 in mahogany or cedar veneer, while some builders use thin plywood strips and paint the hull. Epoxy holds everything together with no fastenings, and a glass sheathing adds abrasion resistance. Sealed compartments under the seats are optional. A 10 ft version is also offered.
