Alli8 Sailing Pram
Designed by Walt Simmons
A 7 ft 10 in sailing pram from Walt Simmons of Duck Trap Woodworking in Maine, and by his own account the only boat in the collection that is not lapstrake. She is built mostly from 6 mm marine plywood and is sold as a full-size lofting, backed by a photo book in the Boatbuilding in Pictures series. The book shows how to nest the hull parts on the plywood sheets, and notes that the sail can be made from a poly tarp.
The designer describes her as readily built and cheap, and some families have used the book as a homeschool text before building their own. A fair first boat. Budget 40 to 80 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Alli8 Sailing Pram actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
