Chesapeake 14
Designed by Chesapeake Light Craft
The 14 ft Chesapeake 14 is the smallest kayak in Chesapeake Light Craft's Chesapeake series, of which more than 9,000 kits have shipped since 1996. It is a true touring kayak scaled for children and small adults of 60 to 135 lb, 21 in wide, about 36 lb, with a 175 lb payload. The hull and cambered deck are 4 mm okoume sheathed in fiberglass, with bulkheads and hatches standard. Kits and plans are both sold.
CLC grades it a beginner project with a manual written for first-time epoxy users. Its figure is about 80 hours: 40 to 50 to assemble the hull and around 30 for sanding and finishing. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Chesapeake 14 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
