Arrow 14
Designed by Platt Monfort
Platt Monfort's Arrow is the SnowShoe 12 stretched to 14 ft, offered to paddlers who want something that behaves like a sea kayak without the weight or the fuss of one. It is an open double paddle boat rather than a decked kayak, and the designer is plain that it is not meant for rolling or for exposed coastal cruising. In the moderate chop of protected water its high freeboard simply lifts it over waves that would wash across a kayak deck.
The hull draws about 2 1/2 in, which is where its easy speed comes from, and the name refers to how straight it tracks. Construction is the Geodesic Airolite method: a light wooden frame of stations and stringers, cross braced with Kevlar roving and covered in heat shrink polyester fabric. Plans and a partial kit of fabric, Kevlar, epoxy and adhesive tape are sold separately or together.
What building a Arrow 14 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
