Shearwater 16 Hybrid

A 16 ft 2 in sea kayak pairing the stitch-and-glue plywood hull of Chesapeake Light Craft's Shearwater 16, from the family Eric Schade drew for CLC, with a cedar-strip deck. Beam is 23 in, weight about 42 lb, and it fits paddlers of 120 to 190 lb with a 240 lb payload. The deck is stripped in bead-and-cove cedar over molds set in the finished hull, lifted off to be glassed underneath, then bonded back down. Kits and plans are available.

CLC calls it intermediate because of the strip work, though far quicker than an all-strip boat. CLC estimates 120 hours and says its display model took about 100. Budget 110 to 160. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
