Designed by Sam Devlin
A 38 ft 8 in heavy displacement pilothouse cruiser by Sam Devlin, built stitch and glue by the Devlin shop as the Ellie K, which her owners have cruised from the Northwest to Alaska. A John Deere diesel in a heavily sound-insulated engine room gives a range the designer puts at over 1,000 nautical miles at 8 knots. Beam is 12 ft 5 in, draft 48 in and displacement 26,000 lb.
It is available as study plans and as a custom build from the Devlin shop, so construction drawings must be arranged with the designer. It is a project for an experienced builder. As a rule of thumb, expect 8,000 hours or more. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
