Pyladian 31
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 30 ft 6 in fast commuter cruiser by Sam Devlin, an evolution of his 33 ft lobster-type Storm Petrel, whose rough-water manners he rates among the best he has run. It was drawn for a couple commuting 34 miles from Vancouver Island to a Gulf Islands home, carrying groceries or lumber in all weather. Beam is 9 ft 3 in, displacement 9,200 lb, and a single 300 hp Yanmar diesel with a bow thruster gives a 20 knot cruise and about 28 knots maximum.
The page offers it only as a custom build, with no plans listed for sale. For scale, a diesel boat of this size would take an experienced amateur 4,000 to 6,000 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Pyladian 31 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
