Black Crown 30
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 30 ft 6 in semi-displacement power cruiser by Sam Devlin, the home-builder version of a design his yard has built in lengths from 25 to 32 ft over 20 years. Devlin recommends a 160 to 250 hp diesel sterndrive and quotes an 18 knot cruise on just under 5 gallons an hour with 200 hp. Inside are an enclosed head, separate shower, dinette for four, galley and a forward double, with 6 ft 5 in headroom. At 10,500 lb she can be trailered behind a 3/4 ton pickup.
A large stitch and glue project with full systems and interior, best suited to an experienced amateur. As a rule of thumb expect 4,000 to 5,000 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Black Crown 30 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
