Scaup 16
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 15 ft 11 in sneakbox-type duck boat by Sam Devlin, scaled up to hunt three people with a dog and more than 120 decoys. Stitch and glue plywood, 6 ft 1 in beam, 285 lb, under 10 in of draft loaded, and a 40 hp outboard for about 28 mph with a medium load. The cockpit opening is nearly 9.5 ft long and over 4 ft wide, yet the side decks are wide enough to grass the boat out. An 18 ft version is also sold.
A decked outboard hull without a cabin, reasonable for a careful first-time builder. Budget 150 to 300 hours as a rule of thumb. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Scaup 16 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
