Lincolnville Salmon Wherry

A 14 ft lapstrake wherry for oars and a loose-footed sprit rig, drawn by Walt Simmons of Duck Trap Woodworking after the boats used for shore salmon fishing on Penobscot Bay in the early 1800s. The page calls her the J R Griffin model. A plank keel lets her sit upright on the beach, and she finishes under 200 lb, light enough to trailer. The same offsets have produced boats from 12 ft 10 in to 18 ft.
Duck Trap has built dozens, and the designer's book Wherries covers the type in depth. This is traditional lapstrake work with a shaped wherry transom, so some planking experience is a help. Budget 350 to 700 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
