Maxi Mac
Designed by Paul Butler
Only 18 in longer than the Mini Mac, the Maxi Mac is wider and deeper, which nearly doubles its volume and lets it carry up to three adults with gear. It is about 14 ft overall with a 4 ft beam at the chine and roughly 62 in across the top, and the lightweight version weighs about 125 lb, still a cartopper. Butler calls it his most popular boat.
A center console stiffens the open hull and houses seating, storage, flotation and an optional motor well, so a small motor can push the boat upstream for repeated drifts without a shuttle. Layouts range from guide and client with an aft rowing station to fully compartmented whitewater versions with self bailing footwells. The plans are a 40 page manual written for first time builders.
What building a Maxi Mac actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
