Caribbea 30
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 9.2 m (30 ft 2 in) cruising sloop by Dudley Dix, drawn with an unusual spread of options. It can be built in multi-chine plywood, or with a round bilge hull in cold moulded timber, C-Flex or sandwich GRP. There are three interiors, masthead or fractional rigs, inboard or transom-hung rudders, and fin, wing or bulb keels drawing from 1.2 to 1.75 m. Displacement is about 3,376 kg with 1,350 kg of ballast, and Dix rates it for ocean crossings.
The multi-chine plywood version is the most approachable for an amateur with some woodworking experience, while the round bilge methods ask more. Dix publishes no build time, so budget 3,000 to 4,500 hours as a rule of thumb. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Caribbea 30 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
