A 30 ft 2 in (9.2 m) on deck radius chine steel cruising cutter by Dudley Dix, the smallest of his Hout Bay range. It comes as a flush deck boat or with a trunk cabin, and with a gaff cutter or Marconi cutter rig of about 540 to 550 sq ft. Displacement is 7,250 kg with 2,200 kg of lead ballast, draft is 1.5 m, and there are six berths. One owner wrote of sailing his from Cape Town to Europe.
Construction is frameless 3 mm plate on longitudinal stringers tied to plywood bulkheads, which the designer says a competent amateur can readily build. Welding skill is required. Expect 3,000 to 5,000 hours as a rule of thumb. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
