Designed by Dudley Dix
An 8.27 m (27 ft 2 in) on deck offshore sportfishing boat by Dudley Dix, 29 ft 6 in overall, with open decks, a centre console and a cuddy. The bottom is two layers of 9 mm plywood and the sides are 20 mm bead and cove cedar strip, all epoxy bonded and glassed inside and out. Lightship weight is 2,200 kg, the transom deadrise is 15 degrees, and power runs from 300 to 500 hp.
Dix calls it a big project that needs good skills: possible as a first build for a skilled woodworker, but better after a simpler boat, as the original builder did. The prototype build is documented on his blog. Expect roughly 2,500 to 4,000 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
