Sweet Pea Mark II
Designed by Platt Monfort
The Mark II adds 10 in to the original Sweet Pea to answer that boat's one weakness: being very short, the first version did not hold a straight course well. The extra length makes this one a little smoother and better performing while keeping the same small size, low cost and child friendly character.
The plans are laid out like the original's, as simplified step by step illustrations that the designer compares to building a model airplane, and he recommends it as a first boatbuilding project. Construction is the standard Geodesic Airolite frame of light wood braced with Kevlar and skinned in polyester, and the builder can buy the plans alone or bundled with the fabric, roving, epoxy and tape kit.
What building a Sweet Pea Mark II actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
