11-Foot Little Auk
Designed by Nick Schade
An 11 ft strip-planked recreational kayak by Nick Schade, sold by Chesapeake Light Craft as a kit or as full-size plans. At 28 in beam and about 31 lb it is easy to car-top alone. It takes paddlers of 120 to 200 lb, carries a 260 lb payload, has room for size 14 shoes, and tracks more firmly than the 10 ft version of the same design.
Rated intermediate by CLC, so some prior woodworking, epoxy and fiberglass work is useful, and the documentation is leaner than for CLC's beginner kits. CLC estimates 120 hours, with the usual strip-built caveat that decorative work adds time. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a 11-Foot Little Auk actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
