11' 4" Wee Lassie

Designed by Mac McCarthy

An 11 ft 4 in solo double-paddle canoe drawn by Mac McCarthy of Feather Canoes, author of Featherweight Boatbuilding, with roots in a J. H. Rushton design. Newfound Woodworks sells plans and cedar-strip kits under agreement with McCarthy, having lofted his lines in CAD and re-spaced the forms. About 25 lb, 26.75 in beam, 200 lb capacity. The paddler sits low on a seat fixed to the bottom, like an open kayak.

One of the smallest and simplest strip builds in the catalog, and a common first strip boat. The kit includes CNC-cut forms grooved for stapleless clamping. As a rule of thumb, budget 120 to 200 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
