13 ft Rowboat
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
The archive lists this as a 13 ft rowboat; the scanned plan itself is a magazine feature for a popular family rowboat built bottom up on a 12 ft strongback, with stations laid out 18 in apart. Its unusual detail is the planking: 3/16 in hard-pressed board (hardboard) in single panels for the sides and bottom, over oak frames, keelson and chines with spruce battens and clamps.
The strongback's top edge is cut to the sheer curve, the frames are toe-nailed to it at each station and checked with a level, and the stem is tacked to the end. Seams are bedded with candlewicking before the panels go on with brass screws an inch apart, and the material list covers everything from cypress transom to oak half-round molding. A free scan; a modern builder would likely substitute marine plywood.
What building a 13 ft Rowboat actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
