Taken from the Whitehall, the most elegant American rowing boat of the nineteenth century, and then changed enough to be a different boat: the lines are modified to make her easier to build and the weight is far lower thanks to modern construction. The narrow waterlines row beautifully and the V bottom holds a steady speed and cuts through a wave. There is no centreboard as standard because the sail is an auxiliary, though she will work to windward without one in decent conditions, and the plans include a centreboard version with the case detailed.
A 4 m rowing boat taking its lines from the nineteenth century American Whitehall, redrawn for chine plywood so it is lighter and quicker to build than the original. Narrow waterlines for rowing and a V bottom for a steady speed, with a sail as an auxiliary and no centreboard.
