Kingfisher
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
Kingfisher is a 9 ft pram with a 4 ft beam and 17 in depth, offered in an old magazine as a modern take on the prams of Scandinavian and Dutch fishermen. It has a semi-vee bottom and scow bow, weighs about 90 to 100 lb, seats three, and is meant to row, sail or take an outboard of 1 to 3 hp. The article makes much of being able to stand up in it to cast.
It is plywood over frames, built on a form sawn from a rough 2 x 10 x 8 ft plank and set on legs at working height, with mould frames dropped into notches. Photographs show the form, the moulds going in and the bow framing. Suited to car topping, use as a yacht tender or a first build.
What building a Kingfisher actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
