Plyak
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
Plyak is a small plywood kayak a little over 11 ft long with a 30 in beam and a weight of about 40 lb, described in the article as a one-man boat with room for a child as crew. It was written for exploring rivers and lakes.
Both ends are identical apart from the keel, so frames at bow and stern match. Frames 1 to 3 are cut from 1/2 in exterior plywood and frame 4 from oak with plywood gussets, all set up on a straight 12 ft 2 x 4 strongback on sawhorses. Waterproof glue is used at every joint. A small, cheap first boat.
What building a Plyak actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
