The original Jane of 1985 sold close to a hundred sets of plans and stayed with her owners, who used her for duck shooting, club racing and rough-weather training. Janette came four years and several experiments later, built on that feedback, and reverses the emphasis: Jane was a rowing boat that would sail, Janette is a sailing boat that rows, and in fact rows better than the original, particularly loaded. Like the other lapstrake-sided boats she is built upright on a simple jig, which suits a first-time builder.
A 12 ft 1 in general purpose dinghy, the successor to the 1985 Jane, which sold nearly a hundred sets of plans. Sails under 76 sq ft, rows, and takes a small outboard, at 50 kg stripped. The kind of boat that stays with its owner for years.
