Bette 500 HV
Designed by Cristian Pilo
A 5.0 m single sea kayak by Cristian Pilo of Modern Wooden Boat, and the founding design of his stitch and glue kayak family. The HV (High Volume) version is the long-range tourer: high initial stability, a large load capacity for coastal camping gear, and two big sealed compartments at bow and stern for flotation. Beam is 64 cm, weight about 22 kg, paddler range 70 to 100 kg and recommended maximum load 170 kg.
Built from 4 mm okoume plywood panels stitched with copper wire, glued with thickened epoxy and glass taped on the chines. Cristian Pilo rates the family for builders with basic woodworking experience and quotes 60 to 85 hours depending on skill. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
