Tikino 16
Designed by Cristian Pilo
A 5.18 m car-toppable beach catamaran by Cristian Pilo of Modern Wooden Boat, named as a nod to James Wharram's Tiki designs. The asymmetric hulls are 4.81 m long with small skegs for beach landings, and the two beams are lashed on with Dyneema line. A small gaff main and jib total 10.2 square metres, with no trapezes. Beam is 2.37 m, the empty boat weighs about 105 to 110 kg, and it carries two adults or one adult and two children.
The hulls go together like the designer's sea kayaks, stitch and glue with internal bulkheads and no building jig, and he rates it suitable for complete beginners. Budget 200 to 350 hours for the pair of hulls, beams and rig. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Tikino 16 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
