A 15 ft 9 in cedar-strip touring kayak by Hans Friedel, sold by Newfound Woodworks as plans or a kit. About 43 lb, 24.25 in beam, 250 lb capacity. It is pitched as a touring boat for smaller paddlers and a day tripper for small to mid-size ones, with a low-drag hull that is quick for its length and responds readily to the paddler.
A full strip kayak with hull, deck, coaming, bulkheads and hatches, so it suits a patient first-timer or someone with a canoe already behind them. The kit uses the Ladder-LOC strongback and CNC-cut forms. As a rule of thumb, budget 200 to 300 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
