18' 2" White Guide
Designed by E. M. White Canoe Co. (lines taken by Gil Gilpatrick)
An 18 ft 2 in tandem expedition canoe based on a design by the E. M. White Canoe Co. of Maine, from lines taken by Gil Gilpatrick, author of Building a Strip Canoe. Newfound Woodworks sells plans and cedar-strip kits. It is a large, very stable canoe for two paddlers and a lot of gear: 35 in beam, 625 lb capacity, about 64 lb. One built by Newfound's crew went down the Yellowstone River.
Ordinary open-canoe strip work, just more of it; two were built by high school students in Minnesota. As a rule of thumb, budget 170 to 280 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a 18' 2" White Guide actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
