River Jon
Designed by Niel Shelton
A flat-bottomed river jon boat Niel Shelton drew and built himself, the fifth boat he has built. A jon is about as direct as a boat gets: a flat bottom, straight sides, a square bow, and shallow enough to work rivers and backwaters that would stop anything with a vee in it.
A one-off rather than a design anybody sells, so there are no plans to buy and no second boat to compare it with. It is here because the builder is keeping a log of it, and the log is the point.
What building a River Jon actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.

If you are building one, yours becomes the reference: the page the next person building this boat finds when they search for it. One photo and one line is a valid first entry.
