Mickey Mouse

Designed by Plyboat

Mickey Mouse answers a simple question: how much boat can you get out of one 1220 by 2440 mm sheet of plywood? The answer is a 2.4 m double-ended punt with a 0.83 m beam, about as wide as the sheet allows before freeboard suffers, and both transoms are kept clear of the water to cut drag.

It weighs around 12 kg, carries up to 100 kg and suits children paddling on ponds and small lakes. The designer pitches it as a father and child project, or a cheap way to try stitch and glue before committing to something bigger; a couple of weekends and very little money will do it. Materials are one sheet of 6 mm exterior plywood, about 7 m of glass tape and under two litres of epoxy. Builders make their own seat and paddle from dimensions on the five-page plans.
