Eight Ball
Designed by Glen-L Marine
Glen-L Marine's most popular design, a 7 ft 10 in vee-bottomed plywood pram that rows, sails or motors, built the conventional way from two sheets of quarter-inch plywood with no building form. The sail is a sock-type cat rig on an unstayed mast, and the centerboard pivots up out of the way.
The ideal first project, and Glen-L says so; it is also the classic way to learn boatbuilding before starting something bigger. Expect 60 to 120 hours, more if you build the sailing version with all its parts. A stitch-and-glue version is drawn separately. Real build times from logs appear below.
What building a Eight Ball actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
