Little Fellow
Designed by Vintage Projects
Despite the 12 ft in its page title, the Little Fellow is a tiny boat: the vintage article describes a 78 in (6 ft 6 in) inboard runabout for a child, 36 in wide and about 125 lb. The original was fitted with a 7.5 hp engine and was said to reach 30 mph, while the article suggests 5 hp is plenty and good for about 25 mph, with the throttle kept back from peak revs for steady running.
The engine is mounted fixed in the hull and the boat is steered with a rudder, whose shaft, tiller arm, collar and stuffing box can be made or bought as an assembly from a marine supplier. The plans are free scans of the original magazine drawings. Anyone building one today will want to think hard about who drives it and where, given the speeds the article quotes.
What building a Little Fellow actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
