Denali Solo
Designed by Ray Klebba
Ray Klebba's solo wilderness tripper, pitched at a paddler who can load two packs and a fishing rod and disappear into the backcountry for a week or two. The Denali has a shallow arch hull with flare fore and aft, tumblehome starting about three feet from each end, and no rocker, so she runs straight. Plumb ends help her cheat the wind on open crossings, and Klebba notes she handles a chop better loaded than empty.
The design page lists her at about 15 ft 8 in and 30 in wide in the standard size, drawing around three inches. Unusually, she can be built at three lengths depending on paddler weight and gear: 14 ft 6 in for paddlers around 160 pounds, 15 ft 6 in for 160 to 200 pounds and 16 ft 3 in for 200 to 275 pounds. Klebba recommends her to an experienced solo tripper who packs light. Plans and basic or complete kits are sold for the cedar strip build.
What building a Denali Solo actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
