Kenosha
Designed by Ray Klebba
By Ray Klebba's own account the Kenosha is the most popular canoe White Salmon Boat Works sells, and it has collected awards to match: Best Paddle Boat at the Portland Wooden Boat Show in 2001 and People's Choice at the Seattle Wooden Boat Show in 2004, 2008 and 2010. She is a traditional looking cedar strip canoe with a shallow arch hull, offered with end heights of either 17 or 15 in.
Under the classic profile the keel line is fairly flat and the midsection flows into a shallow V that sharpens to a fine, deep V at the bow, carried as far aft as possible to act like a keel. A little rocker helps her turn when loaded with crew and gear. Klebba says she paddles straight and fast without an external keel, reaches her best shape when heeled slightly, and suits general use and medium distance trips. Plans, a basic kit and a complete kit are available; no overall length is published on the design page.
What building a Kenosha actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
