Kokanee
Designed by Ray Klebba
The Kokanee is Ray Klebba's version of the classic guide's canoe, the shape most people picture when they think of a canoe, which he says was once the working boat of guides across Canada, Minnesota and the upper eastern states. She has a fairly flat bottom, tumblehome in the sides, moderately high ends with slightly recurved stems and a sweeping sheer. The hull is symmetrical, so she handles predictably in moving water and can be turned round and paddled solo.
The plans allow three lengths, 16 ft, 17 ft or 18 ft 6 in, all on a 33 in beam with a 31 in waterline beam, about 12 3/8 in of depth at centre and 19 in ends. Klebba suggests her for family trips and lake to lake portaging. She is a cedar strip canoe, available as full size plans or as a basic or complete kit from White Salmon Boat Works.
What building a Kokanee actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
