Tamar 31

Designed by Richard Woods

A 9.5 m (31 ft) cruising catamaran by Richard Woods of Woods Designs, in essence a hard-chine plywood Eclipse with the same interior, rig and deck layout. A more upright stem accounts for the shorter length, and the hull sections differ little from the original. Beam 6.0 m, about 3 tonnes empty, 65 sq m of main and genoa, 1.85 m headroom in the saloon and 2.2 m in the hulls, with 1.35 m wide bunks.

The build photos on the page come from a first-time boatbuilder who was well into both hulls four weeks in. Woods lists 2,700 hours as a practised builder's minimum for the Eclipse, so budget 3,000 to 5,000 for this simpler hull as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
