Hobie 16
Built by Hobie
A 16 ft 7 in catamaran designed by Hobie Alter, built from 1969. She carries 7 ft 11 in beam, 10 in draft and 320 lb displacement. About 135,000 were built.
The most numerous catamaran in the world by a wide margin, with asymmetric hulls and no daggerboards, launched off beaches everywhere since 1970. Hobie Cat grew out of Hobie Alter's surfboard shop in California and put beach catamaran sailing within reach of anyone with a car and a stretch of sand. Built by Coast Catamaran Corp. The figures below come from owners who logged work on this boat here.
