Narrow and short enough to trailer behind an ordinary vehicle without a permit, which is most of the appeal of a boat this size. Hobie Cat grew out of Hobie Alter's surfboard shop in California and put beach catamaran sailing within reach of anyone with a car and a stretch of sand.
