A 18 ft catamaran designed by Hobie Alter & Phil Edwards, built from 1976. She carries 8 ft beam, 2 ft 6 in draft and 400 lb displacement.
A larger beach catamaran than the 16, with daggerboards, so she points higher and is less inclined to slide sideways. Hobie Cat grew out of Hobie Alter's surfboard shop in California and put beach catamaran sailing within reach of anyone with a car and a stretch of sand.
