Hobie 17
Built by Hobie
A 17 ft catamaran designed by John Wake, built from 1985. She carries 7 ft 11 in beam, 1 ft 6 in draft and 315 lb displacement.
A singlehanded beach cat with wings to sit out on, built for one fast sailor rather than a crew. Hobie Cat grew out of Hobie Alter's surfboard shop in California and put beach catamaran sailing within reach of anyone with a car and a stretch of sand. The figures below come from owners who logged work on this boat here.
What building a Hobie 17 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
