Hobie 21
Built by Hobie
A 21 ft 3 in catamaran designed by John Wake, built from 1987 to 1990. She carries 9 ft 7 in beam, 2 ft 2 in draft and 565 lb displacement. About 900 were built.
Two hulls, so she is fast and stable until she is neither, and she is righted rather than bailed. Hobie Cat grew out of Hobie Alter's surfboard shop in California and put beach catamaran sailing within reach of anyone with a car and a stretch of sand. The figures below come from owners who logged work on this boat here.
What building a Hobie 21 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
