Volare Console
Designed by Andrew Walters
The console version of Andrew Walters' Volare is a 15 ft 4 in by 5 ft outboard boat whose length was set by two 8 ft sheets of plywood laid end to end. That choice drives the whole build: she is made as two separate halves, bow and stern, so most of the work fits in a small workshop, and the halves are then bonded at their end frames with epoxy and extra glass before the outside of the hull is sheathed.
The stern half uses straight sided panels, which makes marking out simple and lets a timber merchant with a cutting service do the big cuts. Empty hull weight is about 400 lb, and she wants a 20 in long shaft outboard: around 15 hp for two people or 25 hp for four. A step hydroplane supplement is offered for both Volare versions.
What building a Volare Console actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
