Jiffy 22
Designed by Arch Davis
A 22 ft 6 in outboard cabin skiff by Arch Davis with an 8 ft 6 in beam. It scales up the idea of his Jiffy 9-7: the boat is built from the inside out around a watertight deck. One builder reported 28 to 32 mph with a 70 hp four-stroke and four or five aboard.
There is no building jig and no frames. The deck is cut to shape, a stem, transom and fore-and-aft members are added, the bottom is glued and fastened to them, and the sides go on last. The designer rates it for anyone with some woodworking experience, and the builder quoted took two years part time. Budget 800 to 1,400 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Jiffy 22 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
