Chippewa
Designed by Glen-L Marine
A round-bilge canoe from Glen-L Marine on one set of plans in 13, 15 and 17 ft lengths, built either from thin wood veneers laid diagonally in layers (cold molding) or from C-Flex fiberglass planking, over temporary forms that do not stay in the boat.
Cold molding a canoe is more time than difficulty, but it is real work: many strips, lots of stapling and epoxy, then fairing. Budget 150 to 300 hours for the wood version. The fiberglass route is quicker to plank and slower to fair. Measured medians from logged builds show below.
What building a Chippewa actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
