Tandem Quick
Designed by Ashes Still Water Boats
The Tandem Quick is a marathon and cruising canoe, 18 ft 6 in long and 32 in on the waterline, drawn to meet the USCA Competition Cruiser (4x32) rules so that, built to specification, she can race in that class and in the Standard class. Ashes gives her displacement to length ratio as about 27, against 50 to 60 for a typical recreational canoe, and puts speed and tracking ahead of manoeuvrability and load.
Her elliptical sections feel a little tender at first but settle when the water gets lumpy, the recurved tumblehome keeps the gunwales out of the paddle's way, and the asymmetry moves buoyancy aft to resist squatting under power. Expect about 50 pounds even with a careful lay-up. That is light for her length, but Ashes admits a nearly 19 ft canoe overhead on a portage is hard work and suggests a pair of solos for that kind of trip.
What building a Tandem Quick actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
