Expedition Single
Designed by Nick Schade
A 19 ft strip-planked expedition sea kayak by Nick Schade, sold by Chesapeake Light Craft. It shares the cross-section of his Guillemot, with a moderately hard chine for carving turns, and is only 21 in wide. It weighs about 42 lb, fits paddlers of 150 to 250 lb and carries 350 lb of paddler and gear. Complete kits, forms kits and full-size plans are available, along with a retractable skeg kit.
CLC rates it intermediate and estimates 200 hours, a figure that assumes the builder has already finished a couple of stitch-and-glue boats. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Expedition Single actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
