Abaco 23
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 23 ft center console sport fishing boat drawn by Jacques Mertens and sold by Bateau through Boat Builder Central. The hull takes its shape from the Bahamian outboard boats of the Abacos: variable deadrise with a sharp forefoot and 17 degrees at the transom, aimed at a soft ride in rough water. Plywood cored epoxy and fiberglass composite, 8 ft beam, 110 gallons of fuel and up to 300 hp. A CNC plywood kit is offered.
Assembled stitch and glue fashion over a jig from fully developable panels. The designer says anyone who has already finished a small jig-built boat can manage it. The designer's figure is 200 hours for the hull shell and 300 to 800 hours for a finished boat. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Abaco 23 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
